PCB removed, we can see that the unit is populated with OST capacitors only. Not my favorite cap brand, to be honest, but they seem to be doing the job for now.
Looking on from the front, we see an adequate transient filter, complete with surge arresting MOV. Over on the right sticking up with the long white connector is the OCP and fan control daughterboard.
The underside of the unit shows us a reasonably good, if a little sloppy, soldering job. Heatsink screws are done using black countersunk Phillips head screws, which is a little odd. No threadlocker was used, though the screws were nice and tight, and fairly long.
Looking at the unit with the heatsinks out, we see the PFC section at the bottom with another daughterboard that contains the FAN4800IN PWM/PFC controller. Up top are the two big filter coils that signify group regulation. The average cheap independent design would have three of these.
The working silicon in this unit consists of:
PFC (top sink) – two 21N50C3’s and one STTH23RC6D
Primary (middle sink) – two GBU606 bridge rectifiers in parallel (12A total), and two W20NM50 main switchers in double forward config.
Secondary (bottom sink)
– 12V: two MBR6060PT’s in parallel, 120A of theoretical capacity
– 5V: two SBL30L45CT’s in parallel, 60A of theoretical capacity
– 3.3V: two SBL30L45CT’s in parallel, 60A of theoretical capacity
As you can see, Power Man has some overkill built into him to handle his label ratings.
